إن الله فرض فرائض فلا تضيعوها، وحد حدودا فلا تعتدوها، وحرم أشياء فلا تنتهكوها، وسكت عن أشياء رحمة لكم غير نسيان فلا تبحثوا عنها

No prayer should be offered in the presence of food or when he is resisting the need to relieve himself of the two filths

بني الإسلام على خمس

The one who maintains ties of kinship is not the one who recompenses the good done to him by his relatives; rather, he is the one who keeps good relations with those relatives who severs the bond of kinship with him

دع ما يريبك إلى ما لا يريبك

Whoever fasts Ramadan, out of faith and in pursuit of reward, his past sins will be forgiven

إن الله كتب الإحسان على كل شيء

Whoever performs Qiyām (night prayer) in the Night of Decree, out of faith and in pursuit of reward, his past sins will be forgiven

أرأيت إذا صليت المكتوبات، وصمت رمضان، وأحللت الحلال، وحرمت الحرام

Charity does not diminish wealth, and Allah does not increase a servant, on account of his forgiveness, except in honor, and no one humbles himself seeking the pleasure of Allah except that Allah will elevate him

الطهور شطر الإيمان، والحمد لله تملأ الميزان، وسبحان الله والحمد لله تملآن أو تملأ ما بين السماء والأرض

The most perfect believer in terms of his faith is the one who has the most excellent manners, and the best of you are those who are best to their womenfolk

لا ضرر ولا ضرار

The world is but an enjoyment and the best of worldly enjoyments is a righteous woman

لو يعطى الناس بدعواهم لادعى رجال أموال قوم ودماءهم، لكن البينة على المدعى، واليمين على من أنكر

Allah said: 'O son of Adam, spend, and I will spend on you.'

كل مسكر حرام

There are no days in which righteous deeds are more beloved to Allah than on these days," referring to the first ten days of Dhul-Hijjah

من حج لله فلم يرفث ولم يفسق رجع كيوم ولدته أمه

If a man spends something on his family, seeking reward from Allah for it, it will be recorded for him as charity

لا صلاة بحضرة الطعام، ولا هو يدافعه الأخبثان

The Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) forbade qaza‘ (shaving part of one's head and leaving other parts unshaven)

إذا قلت لصاحبك: أنصت، يوم الجمعة، والإمام يخطب، فقد لغوت

The Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) used to say between the two prostrations: "Allahumma ighfir li warhamni wa ‘āfeni wahdeni warzuqni (O Allah, forgive me, have mercy on me, grant me safety, guide me, and provide for me)

الفطرة خمس: الختان والاستحداد وقص الشارب وتقليم الأظفار ونتف الآباط

There is no marriage except with a guardian

أحفوا الشوارب وأعفوا اللحى

forbade vowing and said: "Indeed, it does not bring any good; rather it is only a means to extract something from the miser

من توضأ نحو وضوئي هذا ثم صلى ركعتين لا يحدث فيهما نفسه غفر الله له ما تقدم من ذنبه

The first cases to be settled among people on the Day of Judgement will be the cases of blood (homicide)

اللهم لا تجعل قبري وثنا

When you hear the Adhan (call to prayer), repeat what the Muezzin says

إن أثقل صلاة على المنافقين صلاة العشاء وصلاة الفجر، ولو يعلمون ما فيهما لأتوهما ولو حبوا

Life in this world is sweet and green, and indeed, Allah has made you successors there to see how you will behave. So, be cautious of this world and be cautious of women

لا يقبل الله صلاة أحدكم إذا أحدث حتى يتوضأ

Let not a believing man hate a believing woman. If he dislikes one of her characteristics, he will be pleased with another

السواك مطهرة للفم، مرضاة للرب

Do not take my grave as a place of festivity (which you visit repeatedly), and do not take your houses as graves. Send blessings upon me, for your greeting will reach me no matter where you are

الصلوات الخمس، والجمعة إلى الجمعة، ورمضان إلى رمضان، مكفرات ما بينهن إذا اجتنب الكبائر

When you put on clothes and when you perform ablution, you should begin with your right side

ليس الواصل بالمكافئ، ولكن الواصل الذي إذا قطعت رحمه وصلها

Which deed is dearest to Allah? He said: "Offering prayer at its earliest appointed time." I said: Then, what comes next? He said: "Dutifulness to one's parents." I said: Then, what comes next? He said: "Jihad in the way of Allah

من صام رمضان إيمانا واحتسابا غفر له ما تقدم من ذنبه

I gave the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) a pledge to testify that there is no god but Allah and that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah, to establish the prayer, to pay Zakah, to hear and obey, and to give sincere advice to every Muslim

من يقم ليلة القدر إيمانا واحتسابا غفر له ما تقدم من ذنبه

never fail to say after each prayer: Allāhumma a‘inni ‘ala dhikrika wa shukrika wa husni ‘ibādatik (O Allah, help me remember You, thank You, and excellently worship You)

دعوني ما تركتكم، إنما هلك من كان قبلكم بسؤالهم واختلافهم على أنبيائهم

Allah said: All the deeds of the son of Adam are for himself except for fasting, as it is, indeed, for Me, and I give reward for it

إن الحلال بين وإن الحرام بين

The Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) was asked: Which part of the prayer is the best? He replied: The long standing

إن الله كتب الإحسان على كل شيء

Make frequent prostrations to Allah, for you do not make a single prostration to Allah except that Allah raises you one degree therewith and remits one sin from you therewith

لا ضرر ولا ضرار، من ضار ضره الله، ومن شاق شق الله عليه

The Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) used to strive during the last ten more than he would strive at any other time

مانهيتكم عنه فاجتنبوه، وما أمرتكم به فأْتُوا منه ما استطعتم، فإنما أَهلَكَ الذين من قبلكم كثرةُ مسائلهم واختلافهم على أنبيائهم

Whoever prays the Bardayn (Fajr and ‘Asr prayers) will enter Paradise

ما زال يوصيني جبريل بالجار، حتى ظننت أنه سيورثه

A man asked the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) about fasting while traveling. He answered: If you wish then fast, and if you wish then do not fast

إن الرقى والتمائم والتولة شرك

The Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) would sometimes get up at the time of Fajr while in a state of Janābah after having sexual intercourse with his wives, then he would take a ritual bath and fast

لا تسبوا الأموات، فإنهم قد أفضوا إلى ما قدموا

At every part of the night, the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) prayed Witr: at its beginning, middle, and end. Finally he settled on performing Witr just before dawn

من صلى صلاة الصبح فهو في ذمة الله

Put your hand on the part of your body where you feel the pain and say: 'Bismillāh (In the name of Allah)' three times; then say seven times: 'A‘ūdhu billāhi wa qudratihi min sharri mā ajidu wa uhādhir (I seek refuge with Allah and His power from the evil that I find and fear).'

ما نقصت صدقة من مال، وما زاد الله عبدا بعفو إلا عزا، وما تواضع أحد لله إلا رفعه الله

The Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) was the most generous of people, and he used to be more generous than ever in Ramadan when Gabriel (Jibrīl) would meet him

أكمل المؤمنين إيمانا أحسنهم خلقا، وخيركم خيركم لنسائهم

The Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) would not fast in any month more than he did in Sha‘bān

الدنيا متاع، وخير متاع الدنيا المرأة الصالحة

He who feeds a fasting person will earn the same reward as him

قال الله: أنفق يا ابن آدم أنفق عليك

There is none among you except that Allah will speak to him, with no interpreter between Him and him

أحق الشروط أن توفوا به ما استحللتم به الفروج

There is no day on which Allah sets free more of His slaves from Fire than the Day of ‘Arafah. He verily draws near, then He boasts about them before the angels saying: What do these people want?

كان رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم يهلل بهن دبر كل صلاة

I saw the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) wiping over the top of his leather socks

ما من أيام العمل الصالح فيها أحب إلى الله من هذه الأيام يعني أيام العشر

Whoever performs ablution on Friday, that is good, and whoever takes a bath has done what is better

من ترك صلاة العصر فقد حبط عمله

The Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) fasted on the Day of ‘Āshūrā'

من توضأ فأحسن الوضوء خرجت خطاياه من جسده حتى تخرج من تحت أظفاره

Yawning inside the prayer is from the devil, so if anyone of you yawns, let him suppress it as much as he can

إذا أنفق الرجل على أهله يحتسبها فهو له صدقة

Whoever recites the Verse of the Kursi right after each obligatory prayer will have nothing preventing him from entering Paradise except that he dies

أن رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم نهى عن القزع

The most excellent fast after Ramadan is Allah's month, Muharram, and the most excellent prayer after what is prescribed is prayer during the night

استنزهوا من البول؛ فإن عامة عذاب القبر منه

The best of the men's rows is the first, and the worst is the last, and the best of the women's rows is the last, and the worst is the first

لا تجلسوا على القبور، ولا تصلوا إليها

When Allah gathers the first and the last on the Day of Judgment, a banner will be raised for every traitor, and it will be said: This is the betrayal of so-and-so, the son of so-and-so

أولئك قوم إذا مات فيهم العبد الصالح، أو الرجل الصالح، بنوا على قبره مسجدا

The Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) sacrificed two black and white horned rams, which he slaughtered with his hand, as he mentioned Allah's name and said: "Allāhu Akbar" (Allah is the Most Great), and put his foot on their necks

أمرت أن أسجد على سبعة أعظم

I advise you to treat women kindly, for the woman was created from a rib, and the most crooked part of the rib is its uppermost part. If you try to straighten it, you will break it; and if you leave it, it will remain crooked. So, treat women kindly.

كان النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم يقول بين السجدتين: اللهم اغفر لي، وارحمني، وعافني، واهدني، وارزقني

Hasten with the funeral, for if it is righteous, you will be taking it forward to what is good; and if it is otherwise, you will be laying evil off your necks

اللهم أنت السلام، ومنك السلام، تباركت ذا الجلال والإكرام

“We were forbidden to follow funeral processions, but the prohibition was not mandatory for us.”

صل قائما، فإن لم تستطع فقاعدا، فإن لم تستطع فعلى جنب

I have told you repeatedly to use the tooth-stick

هل تسمع النداء بالصلاة؟ فقال: نعم، قال: فأجب

The upper hand is better than the lower hand

إذا أتى أحدكم الصلاة والإمام على حال، فليصنع كما يصنع الإمام

His wealth is whatever he spends during his life, while the wealth of his heir is whatever he leaves after his death

علمنا رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم خطبة الحاجة

There is a gate in Paradise called Ar-Rayyān through which those who fast will enter on the Day of Judgment. No one else will enter through it

لا نكاح إلا بولي

The liar is not the one who seeks reconciliation between people, conveying good, or saying good things

من قتل معاهدا لم يرح رائحة الجنة، وإن ريحها توجد من مسيرة أربعين عاما

The Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) bought a camel from him, and he weighed out (the price) and paid him more than his due

لعن رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم الراشي والمرتشي في الحكم

The places that are dearest to Allah are the mosques, and the places that are most hateful to Allah are the marketplaces

بني الإسلام على خمس

O Abu Dharr, if you cook broth, increase its water and take care of your neighbors

أرأيت إذا صليت الصلوات المكتوبات، وصمت رمضان، وأحللت الحلال، وحرمت الحرام

Eat, drink, wear clothes, and give charity without extravagance or pride

الطهور شطر الإيمان، والحمد لله تملأ الميزان، وسبحان الله والحمد لله تملآن أو تملأ ما بين السماوات والأرض

I used to pray with the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) and his prayer was moderate in length and his sermon was moderate in length

لا يَخْلُوَنَّ رجلٌ بامرأةٍ، ولا تسافِرَنَّ امرأةٌ إلا ومعها محرمٌ

You should pray as long as you have the energy to do so. If you feel tired, then lie down

ويل للأعقاب من النار أسبغوا الوضوء

No one should prevent his neighbor from inserting a wooden peg into his wall. Abu Hurayrah then said: Why do I see you averse to that? By Allah, I will spread it [forcefully] among you

إذا قال المؤذن: الله أكبر الله أكبر، فقال أحدكم: الله أكبر الله أكبر

The Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) used to break his fast before praying by having three fresh dates

من نسي صلاة فليصل إذا ذكرها، لا كفارة لها إلا ذلك

He who washes a dead person and conceals what he sees, Allah will grant him forgiveness forty times

إن بين الرجل وبين الشرك والكفر ترك الصلاة

Anyone loves to meet Allah, Allah loves to meet him; and anyone dislikes to meet Allah, Allah dislikes to meet him

إن العهد الذي بيننا وبينهم الصلاة، فمن تركها فقد كفر

I asked the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) about looking around during prayer. He replied: It is a way of stealing by which the devil steals a portion of a slave's prayer

كان النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم يعتكف في كل رمضان عشرة أيام، فلما كان العام الذي قبض فيه اعتكف عشرين يوما

If anyone sleeps before praying Witr or forgets it, let him pray it once he remembers it

أن امرأة وجدت في بعض مغازي النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم مقتولة، فأنكر رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم قتل النساء والصبيان

The best charity is that which is given out of richness. The upper hand is better than the lower hand, and let one of you start with those whom he is responsible to provide for

أَتَيْتُ رَسُولَ الله صلى الله عليه وسلم فَقُلْتُ: يَا رَسُولَ الله، إنَّا بِأَرْضِ قَوْمٍ أَهْلِ كِتَابٍ، أَفَنَأْكُلُ فِي آنِيَتِهِمْ

The Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) forbade the use of saffron by men

نهى عن النذر، وقال: إنه لا يأتي بخير، وإنما يستخرج به من البخيل

If the one passing in front of a person who is praying would know the gravity of his sin, it would have been better for him to stand for forty than to pass in front him

إني والله إن شاء الله لا أحلف على يمين، فأرى غيرها خيرا منها، إلا كفرت عن يميني، وأتيت الذي هو خير

The tourism of my nation is Jihad in the path of Allah, the Exalted

أول ما يقضى بين الناس يوم القيامة في الدماء

Whoever carries weapons against us is not one of us

من قاتل لتكون كلمة الله هي العليا، فهو في سبيل الله

Whoever fasts a day in the way of Allah, Allah will keep his face away from the Fire seventy falls

مَنْ حَلَفَ على يَمِينٍ بِمِلَّةٍ غير الإِسْلامِ كَاذِبًا مُتَعَمِّدًا فهو كما قال

People will continue to be good as long as they hasten to break the fast

إذا سمعتم النداء، فقولوا مثل ما يقول المؤذن

We had Suhūr (pre-dawn meal) with the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him), and then he stood for prayer. I said: How long was the time between Adhān and Suhūr? He said: The time it takes to recite fifty verses

دعهما، فإني أدخلتهما طاهرتين

Have Sahūr (pre-dawn meal) for, indeed, there is a blessing in Sahūr

إن ذلك عرق، ولكن دعي الصلاة قدر الأيام التي كنت تحيضين فيها، ثم اغتسلي وصلي

Do not precede Ramadan by fasting a day or two unless a man has a habitual fast, then let him fast it

سووا صفوفكم، فإن تسوية الصف من تمام الصلاة

The Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) enjoined Zakat al-Fitr as one Sā‘ of dates or one Sā‘ of barley on the slave and the free person, the male and the female, the young and the old from among the Muslims. He ordered that it be given before the people go out to the prayer

إذا توضأ أحدكم فليجعل في أنفه ثم لينثر، ومن استجمر فليوتر

It is not lawful for a Muslim woman to travel the distance of one night unless accompanied by a man who is a Mahram (non-marriageable male relative) to her

إن الدنيا حلوة خضرة، وإن الله مستخلفكم فيها، فينظر كيف تعملون، فاتقوا الدنيا واتقوا النساء

Whoever forgets while fasting and eats or drinks, let him complete his fast, for it is Allah Who fed him and gave him drink

حفظت من النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم عشر ركعات

I witnessed Eid with ‘Umar ibn al-Khattāb (may Allah be pleased with him), and he said: These are two days that the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) forbade fasting: the day of breaking your fast, and the other day in which you eat from your sacrifice

كان النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم إذا قام من الليل يشوص فاه بالسواك

Seek out the Night of Qadr (Decree) in the odd nights of the last ten of Ramadan

شكي إلى النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم الرجل يخيَّل إليه أنه يجد الشيء في الصلاة، فقال: لا ينصرف حتى يسمع صوتًا، أو يجد ريحًا

I see that your visions have agreed on the last seven, so, whoever seeks it, let him seek it in the last seven

إذا أُقِيمت الصلاة وحضر العَشاء فابدأوا بالعَشاء

With the start of the ten, the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) would revive the night, wake up his family, exert himself, and tighten up the lower garment

لا يفرك مؤمن مؤمنة، إن كره منها خلقا رضي منها آخر

Adh-hib al-ba’sa rabb an-nās washfi anta ash-shāfi la shifā’ illa shifā’uk shifā’an la yughādiru saqama (Remove the harm, Lord of the people, and heal, for You are the Healer. There is no healing except Your healing, a healing that leaves behind no illness)

إذا أتيتم الغائط فلا تستقبلوا القبلة، ولا تستدبروها ولكن شرقوا أو غربوا

No fasting counts for the one who fasts continuously. Fasting three days is like fasting the entire year

لا يمسكن أحدكم ذكره بيمينه وهو يبول، ولا يتمسح من الخلاء بيمينه، ولا يتنفس في الإناء

The Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) cursed the man who wears women's clothes and the woman who wears men's clothes

نهى صلى الله عليه وسلم عن الصلاة بعد الصبح حتى تطلع الشمس، وبعد العصر حتى تغرب

When Ramadan comes, the gates of Paradise are opened, the gates of Hellfire are closed, and the devils are chained
